NFL Preseason Week 4: Steelers @ Panthers

0

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Carolina Panthers Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 8 p.m. EST

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off yet another successful season in the Ben Roethlisberger era, but they did fall just short of winning another third Super Bowl title with Big Ben after losing to the Green Bay Packers last February. This season the Steelers will be looking to get right back on track and they have looked pretty good in the preseason and will have high hopes of repeating as AFC Conference champions.

On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their lockdown defense will break in a rookie quarterback in the form of number one overall pick Cam Newton out of Auburn. Even though Newton has shown some promise as the Carolina Panthers projected starting quarterback, the former Heisman trophy winner will be facing his toughest challenge of the preseason against a defense that dominates most teams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be playing their starters for long in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers, but they might play them longer enough to make their presence felt against the rookie quarterback.

Jimmy Clausen will probably get the most time under center for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he might be splitting time with Cam Newton as the Panthers might want to get their rookie quarterback some experience against a defense as good as the Steelers.

It will be interesting to see how the BCS champion does against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
