Through 5 games this year the Bears have allowed 115 points. Only Detroit, St. Louis, New Orleans and the Giants have allowed more. Not the best of company when you’re talking defense. Through 5 games last year the Bears had only allowed 36 points. They didn’t allow their 115th point until game 9 last year. Gotta be Mike Brown…
The Saints are playing more like the Aints again, but even at 0-4 the division is ripe for the taking. Tampa Bay is down to Earnest Graham at RB and Carolina has lost Delhomme for the season. David Carr is also banged up. Atlanta just blows. The Saints have scored just 51 points through 4 games. That cannot last.
It also won’t last for the Raiders, but there they are atop the AFC West–at 2-2. I give them some early season kudos. They lost that wacky overtime game to the Broncos in Denver by a field goal (Shanahan time out game). But the next week the Raiders beat the Browns at home and then just thrashed the Dolphins in Miami by 18. LaMont Jordan and Justin Fargas have been piling up 100 yard games.
SI’s Dr. Z called the Bills coaching staff gutless and accused them of cowardice in the Cowboys dramatic 25-24 win this week. Ah yes, the old “bend but don’t break” defense. We Bears fans remember it well from the Dick Jauron days. Read the article here. It’s a brutal indictment on Jauron and his staff. Dr. Z also lets the Packers coaches have it for letting the Bears back in the game.
Should the NFC shut down for the year now? Is any team really going to beat the Colts or the Pats in the Super Bowl? Dallas? Dream on…
Quick–name the active current career rushing leader for yards gained. The answer after the jump.
Did you say Shaun Alexander or LaDanian Tomlinson? You were wrong if you did. The current active leader is Edgerrin James with 10,827 yards. Fragile Freddy Taylor is 2nd followed by Warrick Dunn, LT, Alexander and Ahman Green.
