OLYMPICS GET A MAJOR BEATDOWN
Further proof that not many people care about the Olympics, or that they would rather watch Jerry Rice do the Fox Trot: The ratings for Sunday’s closing ceremonies were terrible.
In the vaunted 18-49 demo, the numbers for Sunday look like this: ABC 7.8/18, NBC 3.5/8, Fox 3.3/7, CBS 3.2/7. The 1st number is rating, the percentage of total households tuned to that show. The second is share, which signifies percentage of households using television that are watching that show.
Overall for the evening NBC did a 8.5/13. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” crushed the Olympics, as did “Grey’s Anatomy”, which more than doubled the final hour of the closing ceremonies. The Olympics couldn’t beat CBS’ “Cold Case” (9.0) and barely beat a rerun of “The Simpsons”.
I found the games boring. I’ve no desire to watch ice skating, or most of the other sports for that matter. This may be odd because I was glued to the set for the last Summer Games, which I found absolutely enthralling. Looks as if I’m not alone.
