ORTON BRINGS IT

5

We all like confirmation. Makes life a lot easier. Example–when a former boss told me how he thought “The Cooler” was just an amazing film, that was confirmation that he was indeed a pud. I didn’t have to wonder about it anymore. It sealed the deal.

Thursday night was the first time for this observer that Kyle Orton confirmed he can run an NFL offense, and run it quite well. It was only for a half in a preseason game, but I saw things I hadn’t seen to date.

Orton had time to scan the field and did an excellent job finding the open receiver. He connected short, medium and long. His presence was that of a starting QB. He looked like a leader. The results were 10-17 with 147 yards, 2 TDs against 0 picks and a passer rating of 126.3. Wow. Chicago Bears fans needed that big time. We have a reason to hope again.

I’m picking him in the 1st round of my fantasy draft!! LOL

Seriously, I predict he’ll be benched by week 4.

One more thing, here. I gotta say that it’s pretty bizarre to me that on one hand, you’re impressed by Orton playing well in a pre-season game versus one of the worst teams in the NFL last year, yet you don’t even mention the fact that your 1st string defense were blown off the ball by one of the worst offenses in football last year. Strange.

I would bet against him being benched by week 4. The post was solely about Orton, not a comprehensive review of the game.

That same defense to which you refer shut down the Pack last week.

? I must have missed that Bears-Packers preseason game last week. a.k.a. I think you misread Haab’s statement…

As far as Orton, I agree with both of you. His play on Thursday confirmed the correctness of Lovie’s decision, however I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets benched this year.

No, I was referring to: “…impressed by Orton playing well in a pre-season game versus one of the worst teams in the NFL last year…”

As for Orton being benched, if Smith’s history is an indicator of future personnel decisions, look for Orton to get all the starts until injury or the playoffs are on the line. If he doesn’t start up until at least week 8, I’d be surprised.
