MULTIYEAR OFFER FOR PETTITTE NOT CRAZY AT ALL

Over at SI, Jon Heyman says it has been a mystery as to why Andy Pettitte hasn’t taken the Yanks 1 year, $10 million (or so) offer.

“But here could be a clue as to why he hasn’t: Pettitte’s people apparently are telling folks he has a $36-million, three-year offer from another, unnamed team.”

Is that crazy? Well the Phils just gave Jamie Moyer a 2-year deal and he is 46 years old. Pettitte had elbow troubles last year–amongst other issues–but he is just 36. Statisically he’s pretty much the same pitcher he’s always been. Sure, he gives up more hits and the league batting average is up some compared to his salad days, but other than that his numbers look almost the same as they did when he was in his 20s.

Assuming decent health, the unnamed team will get a pitcher with loads of postseason experience, 200+ innings, and with a solid defense behind him, a guy that could win 15 games. So I don’t think it’s nuts at all. Isn’t he basically Mark Buehrle?
