This story is ridiculous.

“A suburban Chicago delegate backing Sen. Barack Obama has stepped down from her spot at this summer’s Democratic National Convention after she used the word “monkeys” to describe two African American children.

“We discussed the incident with her. She decided to step down as a
delegate and will be replaced,” Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said Tuesday.

The decision by Linda Ramirez Sliwinski, a trustee in suburban Carpentersville, will likely have zero impact on Obama’s delegate count because another one of his supporters will almost certainly replace her.

Police issued Ramirez Sliwinski a $75 disorderly conduct ticket after her neighbors complained to police about the comment. She told the Tribune the word wasn’t meant racially and she will fight the ticket.”

OK, I can live with her having to step down as a delegate. That’s politics. But a ticket and fine? Are you kidding me? So if something someone says offends me, I can call the police and have them ticketed? And just who will make the judgment as to which words garner us a ticket? Your local police?
