Home Run Derby wonders if Albert Pujols will remember his own comments about who should be eligible for the MVP:

In 2006, Ryan Howard won the National League Most Valuable Player Award … prompting runner-up Albert Pujols to say the following …

“I see it this way: Someone who doesn’t take his team to the playoffs doesn’t deserve to win the MVP

Pujols had the sour grapes in 2006 after leading his St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series Championship while Howard’s Philadelphia Phillies didn’t make the playoffs.
Fast Forward to today … Albert Pujols won the 2008 NL MVP, beating out runner-up Ryan Howard.  Howard’s Phillies won the World Series while Pujols’ Cardinals didn’t make the playoffs.

So will Albert turn down the award? He totally deserves it, but that is a great catch. It does look like one voter held him to his words–he had Albert 7th on his ballot.

I totally forgot about that comment by Pujols! Very interesting. How ironic he lost to Howard when he won the World Series now he beats Howard when Howard wins the World Series. I think Pujols should’ve won both but that’s neither here nor there.

Yeah, I think he’ll turn down the award. (eyes rolling)

I also happen to think AP had more than enough reasons to have sour grapes the year he made those remarks. He could/should have won it 3 other years BEFORE ’06.

BTW, that one STUPID writer who put AP 7th on his ballot also put Prince Fielder 6th.

Honestly, I find it ridiculous that Howard finished 2nd in this vote. If I were voting just for Phillies players for the MVP, he would finish behind Utley, Hamels and maybe even Lidge. That’s how little I think of Ryan Howard. Anyone who has trouble hitting over .240 has no place in the discussion for MVP of a league.

I also thought it was ridiculous that Utley got little love in the voting and this guy left him completely off his list. Best of all, the guy writes for Milwaukee and had 3 Brewers in his top 9. Biased much?

I thought it was funny that Derrek Lee received votes.

    And Stephen Drew.
