Peter Vescey is reporting that John Paxson is on his way out of Chicago. If so, it looks as if the VDN signing did do him in, and VDN can’t be that far behind him. Vescey does write that he does not “know this to be fact”. From the article:

“Do I know this to be fact? No. But two people in the know maintain John Paxson will resign as Bulls GM soon after Thursday’s trade deadline expires. Assistant GM Gar Foreman is expected to take over for the remainder of the season.

Chicago is contemplating numerous trades – Amare Stoudemire, Jermaine O’Neal, Zach Randolph, Chris Kamen – in an effort to acquire an inside threat offensively and defensively, and, at the same time, deport Larry Hughes.

One of the above sources said he wouldn’t be surprised if Doug Collins were approached again at the season regarding the coaching job (currently held by Vinny Del Negro) and as GM, or both. Collins and managing partner Jerry Reinsdorf couldn’t agree on money last May.”

The main question that I have in all of this: When did the Bulls coaching gig become one of the NBA jobs where you can have training wheels? Do you think they would do this in LA or NY? Doubtful. And if money is the big holdup in all of this, what is Jerry Reinsdorf thinking? This is Chicago, and the Bulls were selling out with a 15-win team. All of this is just so strange.

Unfortunately for Pax the big name coaches turned him down before they knew about the #1 pick. I still don’t understand the VDN hiring with so many more qualified assistants out there that could have filled the same role. What confuses me even more is with Del Harris on the bench next to VDN he still looks lost, like he doesn’t want any input from the two veteran coaches he has besides him. Pete Myers could probably have done a better job to this point and he was with the team all a long. Pax’s resignation might be quashed if he is able to pull off a blockbuster by the 19th, but VDN might be a casualty at the season no matter what happens.

I’ve been hearing the Pax stepped down voluntarily due to stress or something? Weird.

Personally being a Jordan era Bulls fan, I can never hate on the Pax
