ROY WILLIAMS TALKS ABOUT THE BEARS

5

Hey, Roy Williams might be taking this 2-0 thing a little too far. Williams was interviewed on WDFN-AM and had this to say about the Bears:

“The Bears, I think everybody fears the Bears for some odd reason. Everybody talks about their defense and how good their defense is and everything like that. I respect them, but I just don’t see what’s so good about the Bears.”

Well I suppose being conference champ and being in the Super Bowl is pretty good. Also, that the Lie-downs haven’t beaten the Bears since week 1 of the 2004 season is pretty good. And that so far this year they are 5th in the NFL in both points allowed and yards allowed.

Hey Roy I saw that play where you were running without a helmet last week. I expect to see it again a week from Sunday.

What is it about the media constantly taking quotes out of context to inspire their hometown team into being motivated? The Tribune and David Haugh have pretty much made it into an art form lately. Not that it’s limited to just him or the Trib.
Sports writers in this country have become masters of this practice over the past few years. And the bloggers of the world simply lap it up like ravenous dogs, never questioning anything about it.

What exactly is out of context in his quote? “I respect them, but I just don’t see what’s so good about the Bears.” That’s pretty clear to me. Why not instead call out Williams for talking out of both sides of his mouth. He respects the Bears but can’t see what’s good about them? It’s an asinine comment. He obviously does not respect them.

And the hometown team thing is hardly accurate; I found this via the Detroit Free Press.

Roy is Roy and will always talk smack. Just like the other big mouth wide receivers in the league. He should talk trash only when the Lions beat the Bears, which probably won’t happen this year (again). FIRE MILLEN MANG!

I guess it just made me think of the whole David Haugh string of articles claiming that everyone in the league thinks the Bears are overrated and aren’t all that good.

Roy Williams was also the one who said that Joey Harrington could be one of the best QBs in the league. Like PB says, Roy will always run his mouth without a filter.
