Big story in the Sun Times today about the Cubs going all out for Soriano. Apparently they would like him to leadoff and play CF. I have no idea why anyone would bat him leadoff, but that is said to be the plan. Derrek Lee can steal bases. Would you bat him leadoff? No. But he gets on-base more than Soriano. Go figure.

Wither Felix Pie? Looks that way. Maybe Pie is nothing more than a tools goof at this point. He’ll be just 22 in February, but he has almost 2000 minor league ABs under his belt.

Why spend $120 million–Soriano’s supposed asking price–if you have a stud prospect for CF? I suppose Soriano could move to LF or RF. If the Cubs were to bat him leadoff, Pie could come in and bat 7th or maybe even 2nd, with the out machine that is Izturis batting 8th. Or maybe Pie just spends another year in AAA.

Ahhh, I love the hot stove. So many scenarios.

I hope they don’t sign him. I want the Cardinals to. Play 2nd base and bat 2nd in front of the best hitter in the game now. I agree that even with the Cards I wouldn’t want to pay 20 mil a year for him. He wants a six year deal. I’d sign him to six at 15.
