Sammy Sosa hit his first homer of the spring. “It was good to get the first one out of the way. That was huge for
me. Everyone wanted me to do that.” Apparently a year away from the game doesn’t change some things.

If you’re a Sox fan and a Mark Buehrle fan, you should probably soak up this season as much as possible. Kenny Williams acquiring Danks and Gio Gonzalez leaves some writing on the wall. Plus, even if Buerhle struggles this season you’d think he’ll be in line for something around $12 million a year. Does anyone see the Sox paying him that? I don’t.

Meanwhile the Sox pounded the Cubs 13-2 yesterday, powered by 5 HRs. Konerko hit 2. A few bright spots for the Cubs: Soriano’s 3-3 day and DLee’s first HR of the spring. The Cubs also turned one DP that went Izturis-DeRosa-Lee. Yes, the Cubs DP combo is Cesar Izturis and Mark DeRosa. Strange.

I really wish I wouldn’t have read about this, from ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick:

Maddux? For a guy with a CPA’s demeanor, he has a sense of humor that a
12-year-old would envy. Maddux is a master of strategically timed nose
picking, sidling up to an unsuspecting rookie in the shower and
urinating on the kid’s leg, and inventing just the right nickname for a
teammate with big ears, a prominent schnozz or some other pronounced
physical qualities.

That’s just creepy. David Wells calls Maddux “The Silent Scumbag”. Urination aside, the Padres will be an interesting team to watch this year. Their rotation of Peavy, Young, Wells, Maddux and Hensley could be very good.
