In last Sunday’s Trib, Phil Rogers had a blurb about Brian Roberts coming to Chicago–but to the Sox, not the Cubs. Steve Rosenbloom has more on that today:

“From the Sox’s standpoint, anything is better than Juan Uribe, and you have to believe that general manager Kenny Williams would love to snake Roberts from the drooling Cubs after losing out on Kosuke Fukudome, but not just for revenge. No, Roberts would be the kind of leadoff hitter that would eliminate relying on the annoyingly injured Jerry Owens. It would also allow Brian Anderson to just go catch the ball while learning to hit major-league pitching from the bottom of the order without as much pressure as when he replaced beloved-slash-adored-slash-everybody’s-new-best-friend Aaron Rowand.

Roberts-to-the-Sox would essentially swap the Nos. 1 and 9 hitters in the lineup, and, let me tell you, going Roberts-Cabrera-Thome-Konerko-Dye-Swisher-Pierzynski-Fields-Anderson is good enough to exchange lumps with Detroit and Cleveland. But the Orioles want prospects for Roberts, and the Sox seem out of them after the Swisher deal.”

Oooh. I couldn’t agree more. Of course, I still have issues with the the entirety of the Sox pitching staff. But that sure would be fun to watch.
