THE WILD MONTH OF SEPTEMBER
Dayn Perry of Fox Sports (yeah I like this guy) breaks down the top 10 stretch drive burning questions in his latest column. He’s bringing the knowledge.
I had no idea that “no team in any of the major professional team sports has endured as lengthy a playoff drought as Milwaukee has.” 1982 to be exact. That was when you could actually watch playoff baseball at noon.
Perry also writes about 20-game winners, or the lack thereof: “…that’ll make back-to-back seasons in which we haven’t had a 20-game winner in either league. Can you name the last time that happened in consecutive full (i.e., non-strike-or-lockout-shortened) seasons? Never. Yep: Never before has baseball failed to produce a 20-game winner in either league in back-to-back full seasons. So there’s some history of a sort for you.”
He also mentions which teams might be making some front office replacements if they don’t go to the postseason. And yes, Jim Hendry of the Cubs is one of the nominees.
