According to ESPN.com, Heavyweight Tommy Morrison is back in the fight game.

“Heavyweight Tommy Morrison, who was indefinitely suspended after a positive HIV test on the eve of a 1996 fight in Las Vegas, has been cleared to return to the ring after passing a battery of medical tests.”

Morrison will fight Thursday night in a four-round bout against a fella named John Castle. The card is being televised on “Versus”, but apparently they are not showing Morrison’s bout. At a time when MMA is kicking the crud out of not only boxing ratings but other major sports like the NBA and NHL, you have to wonder why they wouldn’t televise his fight. But that’s why boxing is slowly going the way of the buffalo.

The ESPN article quotes Morrison as saying, “I know I didn’t have [HIV] in the first place. I never had it. I believe it, but they kicked me out of the sport. … Over the last two or three months, I have taken five, six different [HIV] tests and continued to pass them. It was just a matter of time before they had to let me fight again.”

Morrison, now 38, owns a career record of 46-3-1, with 40 KOs.

This guy is mentally ill…he was on Dan Patrick’s show this afternoon and sounds like he is in his own world…Another one of those guys that should “just go away..”

I saw this fight and though Tommy seemed winded, if you remember he always got this way, even 11 years ago. He was fighting a younger, leaner, opponent with a four inch reach on him. He gave him the power shot that we all know and down went the other guy. typical Tommy fight and exactly what i as a fan expected. I wish him all the luck in the world and would love to see him fight live again. It was announced that he is to fight in March 07. Does anyone know where and when. To those who are knocking this former WBO champ. Who are you following? Tommy is coming back at a time when boxing is being relaced by K-1, why cant you give him a break. I hope he regains his title so all of you can eat your words.

    Part 2

Dont get me wrong John Castle may have been winning by points after the first round and Tommy has alot of work a head of him but he still has the heart and hunger. I think heis angry about the last 11 years and because of that anger I think if it is focused he can do alot for this dying sport.

Do you want to know what I think? I think Tommy Morrison has something other fighters doesn’t.. well.. Blonde hair (just kidding), a great left hook, talent, muscles and the best combinations ever.. at least i think. He deserves this second chance, I dont think he ever had HIV. That is just something someone set him up for. However, Just wait and see. He will become big again. / Tommy morrisons greatest fan.

Good luck to Tommy Morrison, he has a short window of time to reclaim some lost years. 11 years!! That’s a lot of fights he could have won. why did theye sideline him? Did someone have concerns that Tommy would have beaten Tyson someday. I think so. I think it would have been a good fight with Tommy ‘Gun’ winning by K.O. and unifying the title as well.
