U.S. OPEN NEEDS NEW FORMAT
Sunday’s final round of the U.S. Open was incredible. But I couldn’t agree more with Ed Sherman from the Chicago Tribune.
“Imagine what kind of prime-time ratings NBC would have pulled in if Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate had competed in a three-hole playoff Sunday. Everyone’s adrenaline was pumping after Woods made that putt on the 18th. Nobody wanted it to end there.
But instead of a thrilling Sunday finish, the U.S. Open will go to its outdated 18-hole Monday playoff. Most of these playoffs have been lackluster affairs played during a weekday afternoon when most people are at work.”
Time for the USGA to change this format. Nothing would have been better than seeing them go at it last night.
