WELCOME TO THE FUKUDOME

18

This is a great signing for the Cubs. If the many scouting reports on him are correct, we just got much better. He’ll get on base, play great D and hit for some power.

Where he will bat will be interesting. I suppose that depends on the Brian Roberts to the Cubs rumors, which won’t go away.

Yes, I can dare to dream. Having 2 players at the top of the lineup that work counts and pitchers and get on-base is something I don’t think the Cubs have ever had in my lifetime.

Even if that remains a rumor, the Cubs first 4 of Soriano, Fukudome, DLee and Ramirez will not be fun for the opposition.

I’d say you get a legitimate guy in the #2 hole (assuming Soriano at lead-off) and bat Fukudome #4 between D. Lee (at #3) and Ramirez (#5). That combo of righty, lefty, righty will get you runs early and create a whole mess of confusion for an opposing team’s pen late.

Sounds good but I would bet my life that DLee and Ramirez will be 3-4. And assuming we do not get Roberts than Soriano would go back to his leadoff spot (which I am adamantly opposed too). So that would leave the 2 or 5 hole for Fukudome. I prefer him in the 2 because I assume he will be better than DeRosa offensively, but D-Ro may end up in the 2 spot.

The Fukudome t-shrit biz will be jumping this year. Great pick-up for the Cubbies. The White Sox let yet another player get away. BAHAHAHAHA!!!!! FIRE MILLEN MANG!

    The Stros just got Tejada.

    Man I hate those guys.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

Tejada, as the Stone Temple Pilots would sing, is half the man he used to be. But yes, I still hate them too!

  • dhaab

Something tells me if another team had signed this guy to a 4 year contract, the Zoner would be telling them how bad of a deal it was. No mention of the terms of the deal here, though.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

Don’t be difficult. Your thinly veiled attempt to label me as a homer or unfair is easily erased by a quick perusal of the Zoner archives. If I think it’s a bad deal I would say so. I’ve been writing for weeks why I like him. The exact terms were not announced yet, but yes it is for 4 years.

  • mod

How’s that feel dhaab? Need some solarcaine?

    OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!

Sorry, I work with 60 fifteen year olds everyday.

Tejada is, as previously stated, half the man he was. But he will hit well in the pinball machine that is Minute Maid. And it’s enough for all the obnoxious prognosticators to give Houston the edge in the Central next year. Somehow they will still all manage to find a way to say that the Cubs have gotten worse.

  • dhaab

You like him? How the hell do you know if you like a player you’ve never seen play before?

  • http://zonersports.com Z

historical data, the consistency of various scouting reports…do I really need to answer this? And I actually have seen him in the the World Championship just 2 years ago. He was the MVP.

  • dhaab

Whatever…and no, you don’t have to answer anything.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

Whatever? Is that you’re way of saying oops?

  • dhaab

No, it’s my way of saying if you don’t want to debate, don’t have a blog. You said “do I really need to answer this” as if it was a stupid question and I don’t think it was. And watching someone play one game isn’t really much to go on, but we’ll see if this guy merits a 4 year contract at 10 million bucks a year. Me thinks he won’t. He seems to be a left handed version of Matt Murton with more speed. But he’ll surely bring the Japanese fans to Wrigley.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

You’ve never seen him so how can you say “He seems to be a left handed version of Matt Murton with more speed. “?

Debating is enjoyable. But I don’t want to debate stupid questions.

  • dhaab

That’s why I wrote “he seems to be”.

Once again, if another club had signed him to this long of a deal for that much dough, I think you would have said it was a bad move. It’s well documented that the majority of Japanese players coming over to the states don’t come close to matching their stats in Japan.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

“Once again, if another club had signed him to this long of a deal for that much dough, I think you would have said it was a bad move.” Once again, I wouldn’t have said it was a bad move. Whether or not Japanese players match their stats in the bigs is irrelevant. I like the deal. He likely won’t hit 30 homers but it’s apparent he is a quality player.

  • dhaab

Still think you got a quality player, Zoner? LOL

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

yes i do. and that post is coming.
