WHAT’S UP WITH HINRICH?

2

I’ve seen my share of the Bulls this year and I have to say the most surprising thing has been the utterly horrible play of Kirk Hinrich.

His year to date: Shooting 33% from the floor overall. Shooting 5-28, just 18% from 3. Turnovers are up from last year and assists are down. Points per game are down almost 5 off his career average.

Hinrich will frequently pull the ball back out instead of driving to the basket and rarely does he beat other players off the dribble. Against the Clippers on Saturday night, I saw him on a 2-3 break and he chose to circle back to run a play instead of going to the basket and getting to the line.

While heralded as a great defender, Hinrich also gets a lot of stupid fouls and ends up in foul trouble too much for a starting point guard. That assumes you think he is a point guard. Whatever he is, it’s just insane that he had his best year last year and comes out of the gate like this.

Without a true low post scorer, you have to have players that will take it to the basket. The Bulls don’t really have anyone that excels at that either. They played a great game on Saturday night and then pooped the bed last night. These slow starts are killing us Bulls fans.

All in all I’ve been pretty surprised by the Bulls. I fully expected them to contend in the East, and even though it’s early, it doesn’t look like they’re even a playoff team. Just hope they don’t trade the whole team for Kobe; I think that would be taking something that’s not working quite right and breaking it altogether.

The way the Lakers bench is playing, I doubt Kobe even wants out anymore. One hope for Bulls fans is that the last 2 seasons have started similiarly. I think they started 3-9 last year and almost won 50. But whereas last year I could tell they were close this year they look mostly clueless and have zero confidence.
