WILL YOU WATCH SADDAM DIE?
Let’s not kid ourselves. We will all get the opportunity to see Saddam die. And most of us will indeed watch it. Maybe more than once. I know I will.
“We will video everything,” (Iraqi official) al Rubaie said. “All documentation will be videoed. Taking him from his cell to the execution is going to be videoed, and the actual execution will be documented and videoed.”
But reports say it is not clear whether it will air on Iraqi TV. That is not of consequence. We have the internet and it will make its way on to it sooner or later.
So is it wrong? Why is it undignified to let the world see the execution of the most infamous dictator since Hitler? Why is it undignified to watch?
Are we going to be ‘real’ or are we going to keep up appearances? I want to see it. It will not be a gory scene. On the contrary, and it will be quicker and seemingly more merciful than a lethal injection. If it was a regular Joe who hadn’t committed such atrocities I probably wouldn’t view it. But it is Saddam, a man of international infamy. And like the Zapruder film, I suspect people will watch it over and over.
What do you think and will you watch if given the chance?
