WILLY TAVERAS?
White Sox GM Ken Williams seemingly has the Midas Touch when it comes to acquiring players. But after reading today that he was possibly interested in Colorado’s Willy Taveras, I was a bit boggled.
Taveras is a prolific base stealer, swiping a career-high 68 bags this past season and 30 or more in the three years prior. That’s great–but he has no power and little plate discipline. Furthermore, he has suffered from quad injuries during the past 2 seasons. Sound like someone Sox fans know? Scotty Pods?
The Sox already have that player anyway in Jerry Owens. So if Ken Williams is thinking about it from a depth standpoint–great. If it’s for Taveras to be the starting centerfielder, I hope he takes a pass.
