ZONER’S MONDAY MORSELS
Ding! Ding ! Ding! 1st Cubs injury of the year! To the morsels…
It was vintage Kerry Wood the other day. No, I’m not referring to blazing heaters past hitters. It was the 1st in a series of “I was terrible but I threw the ball well” reports from Wood.
“For the first time [out], I thought my location was all right,” he said. “I threw good fastballs, a few good sliders and my cutter was good. Obviously, the results aren’t what you’re looking for, but I’m pleased with it.” These guys act like they are trying a new sport. It’s not 1950. You should be almost ready to rock when spring gets here. Look for the Kerry Wood to the DL contest shortly…
Joe Girardi may be the skipper in New York now, but Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria recently had this to say: “With the exception of last year, when we had the chain of injuries primarily hung over from the year before when there were decisions made that were not great decisions, this team has always been formidable.” You think Joba Chamberlain will have some 120 pitch games? Something to look for.
The Bears missed out on Alan Faneca and Michael Turner, but give credit to Bears GM’ Jerry Angelo. He got Briggs to re-sign for cheaper than most all pundits thought it would take to bring him back, and he did not pay Bernard Berrian $42 million like the Vikes did. That’s redonkulous. As long as the Bears draft a RB, WR and OL in the first 3 rounds of the draft, I’ll be happy.
And finally, you may have a case of the Mondays, but it could be worse. This report says that outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle. He should really stop that.
